With cleaning up the rental property, I noticed that living in the desert and having three large dogs at one point (yes, three dogs), I noticed my white blinds were a bit drab. The actual blind slats were clean and still white but the strings were not. They were gray and looked awful. I know it's not the biggest deal but it's tiny details like that and the baseboards that make a difference appearance-wise.
With that, I started looking up how to clean blind strings and couldn't find any help. I soaked the strings in bleach, I tried vinegar, I tried household cleaner and nothing was working. I was starting to look up how to re-thread the blinds but then asked my mother-in-law. She has all of the tricks up her sleeve that are super useful. And she knew how to whiten the blind strings not only easy, but REALLY fast. I cleaned 11 sets of blinds in less than 2 hours and it only took that long because I would get sidetracked, naturally.
BEHOLD! Greased Lightning! I found it at Lowes but Harbor Freight and Amazon carry it. Lowes had the best pricing at around $6 for the location in Arizona. Let me tell you, this stuff is MAGICAL on blind strings. The strings are white and each set took only spraying it on, going to turn on the hose, rinsing it off on both sides, and letting them dry in the sun. The cleaner did not have to sit and soak! I tested letting it sit longer to see if it made a difference, and it didn't. It was the same sparkly white. It gets it done the first few seconds. Fast is an understatement. I was able to clean them, dry them in the sun and get them hung back up in one afternoon. I didn't have to go without blinds throughout the night.
I also sprayed it on the blind slats to clean them up from the demo dust in the house and it didn't mess up the material. I would test it on your blinds first in a spot that isn't obvious. I have plastic blinds so it didn't effect them at all. But if you have real wood that is painted, test it just to make sure. But it didn't harm my white faux wood blinds at all.
I am not sponsored by them. I did not get this product for free. I paid for it, put in the work for it and am SO happy with it and I wanted to share my happiness with everyone who wants white strings again on their white blinds. They look brand new!
