You know your an adult when you get excited about decorating and adding a personal touch to your home. I never realized the importance of this until I moved in with my boyfriend. We currently are renting my mother-in-laws house. She lives in Washington temporarily and we're keeping her home cozy while she's living there for a little bit.
But first let me back track. I own my own home. I've had it for the last 8 years and I bought it at the bottom of the market in 2012. Best decision I have ever made. But since I'm living with my boyfriend at his place, we decided to fix up my home and turn it into a rental property. My mortgage is so low that it only makes sense. So as that is coming to an end, I've realized that I was able to put some of my toned down personality in fixing the house up. Some of the changes we made were painting the whole house, vanities in the bathrooms, we refinished the tubs and showers, and new toilets. We repaired the closets, cleaned the blinds (posted that cleaning hack!), and fixed some plumbing issues. I have learned that changing the temperature of the lighting changes the whole mood of the house. So I have gone through and changed ALL of the light bulbs to LED lights that have the same temperature which is considered a "warm white" where it's bright but still has a slight warmth to make the house feel like a home.
And now that it's coming to an end, I'm realizing, I want to live there again. I changed out the floors when I lived there to tile and laminate wood flooring and it's everything I love and is my style. But, it makes sense to rent it out financially while we save up for our own home in the next few years.
My mother-in-laws house isn't ugly at all. Its cutely decorated and her paint colors go well for her. But they're too dark for me. We have sheer dark purple curtains, patterned couches and it's just not my taste and it's making me antsy to add my own touches. So I'm going to start creating a look book of style inspiration. Some of the pieces I can include while living here such as frames for photos, bedding, organization and some kitchen utensils and the rest will be my wish list. I want to feature different stores at different price points. That way, if you see anything you love, AWESOME! I'm glad I could help. But for now, lets get this party started!
I'll post daily different rooms inspired by different stores. Obviously, I'll feature Walmart, Amazon, Lowes, Bed Bath & Beyond, Target and I'll also find smaller unique pieces from Cost Plus World Market and other stores. Each room will have it's own location and some rooms might repeat with different shopping locations. Save it. Shop it. Pin it. Whatever you want with it. If you have suggestions or room recommendations, leave a comment below!
Cheers!
